This monthly periodical, and its predecessor, were produced to promote and to report on Alabama agriculture. The periodicals represented are the Alabama Farmers' Bulletin, published from 1983 Nov. until 1991 Jan., and the Alabama Farmers' and Consumers' Bulletin, published from 1991 Feb. until the present. The Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries wrote a column in each issue. Commissioners writing columns include Albert McDonald, Jack Thompson, and A.W. Todd. Farming and anything that affected farming, such as government policies, the world economic market, and the weather, are the primary topics discussed. Charts and statistics are used extensively, and cotton, soybean, and peanut yields revceive particular attention, as does livestock. Advertisments include those for agricultural products such as cattle, goats, grains, horses, rabbits, sheep, and swine, as well as for farm labor, handicrafts, and machinery. Ads occupy over half of the periodical, which is usually eight pages.
